In Maniago since 1934

In 1934 Agostino Tavella, a prominent figure in the town, founded the Antica Coltelleria Tavella knife shop. To date, the cutlery store is the oldest knife store in Maniago. In the 1920s, Tavella began with a modest manufacturing workshop, later expanding his business by opening a warehouse in Genoa to distribute knives. Finally, he returned to his hometown to continue the business of representing Maniago's handcrafted knives, working with dealers throughout Italy. Tavella was one of the first Maniago workers to participate in the Milan Sample Fair in the 1930s. Upon Agostino's death, his sons Luciano and Rina took over the cutlery shop on Via Roma.

In July 2001 the company passed to Oreste Frati, well-known figure in the Italian cutlery world and owner since 1977 of Oreste Frati srl - Fox Knives.

Today the store focuses everything on efficient sales service to meet the needs of customers who are mainly visiting tourists and, increasingly, knife enthusiasts who have come to appreciate Maniago products. A source of pride for the cutlery shop, therefore, is to help make Maniago's manufactured knives better and better known in detail. As one enters the store, one recognizes many of these knives, as well as the finest U.S., Spanish and German productions.

A significant section of the store is devoted to replica katanas and swords, from the U.S.-based United Cutlery or the many specialized Spanish brands.
The interest in local product is confirmed by kitchen and professional cutlery, geared more toward Maniago products, although a selection of imported products is also available. The stocks with various selections of kitchen knives are always successful, most notable among them the forgings of the Two Swans series, an old and renowned Maniago brand acquired by Fox. The cutlery shop also carries utensils and small kitchen tools, such as the German Wmf.
